Southport Yacht Basin Shooting Reported

We’re bringing you a unique breaking news report for the Carolina Weather Group. It’s about the police response in the town of Southport, North Carolina. It’s not far from Cape Fear and just south of Wilmington, North Carolina. And we’re bringing this to you on the Carolina Weather Group because, as we’re getting information tonight, at least the weather cameras in that town of Southport show a police presence. So, while we wait for the cameras to turn, they’re operating in a robotic manner.

I’ll first bring you the information I have here for you around 11:20 PM. And this is from the town of Southport, which posted on its Facebook page around 10:00 PM tonight that they can confirm reports of an active shooter, but can’t comment on whether anyone was injured. Surf Check is a popular website. You can use it to check beach conditions throughout the area. Their “Fishy-Fishy Cafe” camera in Southport gives you a big picture of the first response from police to medical professionals in the Southport area of New Brunswick County. Again, responding to reports of a shooting tonight at the Southport Yacht Basin in the city of Southport, North Carolina. Again, this is a camera we often use to check weather conditions, surf conditions, or beach conditions. Because the automated camera continues its surveillance throughout the area tonight.

Here you go again, there are countless vehicles at the Southport Yacht Basin near the Fishy-Fishy Cafe. The Southport Yacht Basin is right here, on the tip of the mainland in North Carolina. Again, not far from Baldhead Island. Not far from Cape Fear Station, just inland. Not far from Frying Pan Schools. We’re south of Wilmington and a little north of Myrtle Beach. And then, just before 10:00 a.m., the city confirmed on its Facebook page that an unknown number of people were injured due to reports of an active shooter. So, that doesn’t mean anything has been confirmed at this time, other than what’s being seen on the weather cameras. And it’s not just about Surf Check. We know that NBC affiliate WECT has cameras in their viewing areas. Several TV stations do. And you can see that their Southport camera actually goes directly over that area. And I think the newspaper, the State Port Pilot, also has a camera that moves around the area like a robot.

So, this Saturday night was a bit unusual here, because we, you know, are checking weather conditions throughout the area so that at least a group of flashing lights can be seen on the Surf Check camera, as the police continue to investigate and respond to whatever happened here. Authorities are urging you to avoid the area and report any suspicious activity to 911. And yes, you can expect the city of Southport to provide updates on its Facebook page, and local media outlets in the area will likely provide updates tonight and tomorrow morning on exactly what happened here. So, I just wanted to tell you this. We’re seeing an unusual situation on one of our regional weather cameras tonight. And hopefully, everyone will be okay. And some of our worst fears won’t come true. We can only hope. But again, this same situation is occurring tonight in New Brunswick County, North Carolina, this Saturday, September 27, 2025. So we’ll see what happens in the morning.

You’re right. Indie Space is right. I don’t know why I keep mentioning New Brunswick County. It’s just Brunswick County. I apologize for this late Saturday night. Uh, maybe it’s because I grew up in the New York, New Jersey area, so New Brunswick was on my mind from New Jersey. So, yes, here in the Brunswick County, uh, Southport, uh, area. Uh, it seems that police activity is still active and present here this Saturday night. So, I’ll leave it at that. Again, uh, for our weather channel, not really our wheelhouse, but, uh, again, seeing all those flashing lights is an unusual situation. Uh, and our thoughts and prayers are with that area. As this investigation continues, I’m waiting for the Surf Check cameras to, uh, automatically rotate across the area once again and give you one last look at the situation that’s unfolding here right now.

Again, these cameras are just automatic and just keep rotating, and if anyone has control over them, it’s definitely not me. Uh, and then it’ll be back to Fishy Fishy Cafe. But you know, Surf Check is a website that has dozens of cameras throughout the area. Again, usually on beaches, on friends, uh, on the sand. Uh, coincidentally, this is showing part of the Southport area, uh, here in the yacht basin, where this investigation is taking place tonight. And as the camera comes back out of those deep waters, I’m not familiar enough with this area to know if they’re usually there, or if there’s a police boat in the water tonight in connection with the investigation.

But I think after this zoom in, it’ll zoom out, pan to the left, and we’ll take one last look at the investigation going on here. I mentioned that NBC affiliate WECT has a weather camera in the area, and I’m also keeping a close eye on their web article to see if their reporters have any additional reporting tonight. But at this point, their web article is very similar to the official statement from the city of Southport, which is on Facebook. So, police are investigating the shooting at the Southport Yacht Basin. Uh, this is in Southport, North Carolina, just south of Wilmington, uh, in Brunswick County.
