Dallas Cowboy Marshon Neyland was just 24 years old and just three nights ago, he was celebrating on the field after scoring a touchdown on Monday Night Football. This happened just three days ago on Monday Night Football. 24-year-old Dallas Cowboy defensive end Marshon Neyland raced to the end zone and scored a touchdown, recovering a blocked punt in the end zone, and celebrating with his teammates.
Celebrate touchdowns. Tonight, his story ends in tragedy. Authorities say he led police on a chase in Texas and was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities are launching a search for Neyland with the help of drones and a police dog after his loved ones reportedly alerted authorities to a potential crisis. We’re speaking with his girlfriend. She’s trying to call his agent, but we’re telling her to call him first, but she’s saying he’s armed and has a history of mental illness. And she was like, “He’ll end it all.” About three hours later, authorities found Neyland’s body.
Neyland was a 2024 second-round pick from Western Michigan. He had been open about his struggles with the loss of his mother, who dreamed of seeing him make it to the NFL, but she died suddenly just two months before he was drafted. It was tough. Uh, it still is. Uh, I still, you know, like go through it from time to time. Neyland kept his mother’s memory with him every day, wearing a necklace filled with her ashes.
